Steve has a unique background that combines both financial and M&A leadership during his over 40+ years in senior financial management positions within a diverse group of both public and private corporations. His distinguished career has included a broad range of functional and strategic business experiences, specifically in corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions. His diverse industry background has culminated in business services, most notably in Staffing Services, IT Services and M&A Advisory & Consulting Services.
Throughout his career, Steve has had extensive involvement with mergers and acquisitions in both public and private enterprises, having participated in over 50 M&A transactions during this time (completing over forty in the Staffing Industry), ranging in scope from $1 million to over $50 million in transaction size.
In conjunction with his founding of MergeQuest in 1999, Steve has enjoyed over 30 years in the Staffing Services Industry, both as an industry executive and consultant. During this time, he has met and worked with hundreds of Staffing executives and business owners - an experience that has provided Steve with his unique understanding, insights, perspective and business acumen when it comes to all aspects of owning, operating, buying and selling a business within the Staffing Industry.
Steve's prior Industry experience included seven years with Oxford Global Resources (acquired by On Assignment in early 2007), today one of the largest international IT / Technical Staffing and IT Services firms in the U.S. that provides staffing services throughout the U.S., Ireland and the U.K. During his tenure, Steve held several key senior management positions, having progressed from VP of Finance to become the firm’s VP of Business Development and Acquisitions - where Steve developed and implemented the company's M&A program and then coordinated and orchestrated the acquisition of multiple strategic acquistions, including the company's first European acquisition in the Republic of Ireland.
Steve subsequently went on to become the Chief Financial Officer for EdgeRock Technologies in Boston - a boutique IT Staffing firm and national provider of high-end, IT consulting professionals that provide consulting services in ERP technologies such as SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft. Steve was a key instrumental force in providing support and guidance to the firm's CEO, along with delivering dynamic leadership through financial and organizational development that culminated in the preparation and sale of EdgeRock to CDI Corporation in late 2015 - and then the second sale of EdgeRock to BG Staffing in 2020.
Steve also possesses seasoned expertise in the assessment and development of business valuations, especially in the Staffing and IT Services Industries - where Steve has performed over 100 business valuations.
Steve has written extensively on the subject of M&A and business valuations and has published articles in a variety of industry publications and journals. He has also been an active participant in several industry associations such as the: American Staffing Association (ASA), Massachusetts Staffing Association (MSA), TechServe Alliance (formerly NACCB) and the National Association of Personnel Services (NAPS).
After receiving his B.A. in Accounting from Boston College, Steve went on to obtain an MBA from the graduate business program at Babson College.
